CERTIFICATE IN THEOLOGY & RELIGIOUS
STUDIES
The Certificate
in Theology and Religious Studies is a modular 60 credit programme,
offered by M.I.C. in partnership with a variety of module providers.
Liturgy and Life (I & II)
Module Content:
To lead participants to a greater appreciation of worship as the
source and summit of the Christian life.To explore the riches of
the Church’s year through participation in the Abbey’s
liturgy and related workshops.
The first module comprises three weekends
which will deal with Ordinary Time; the Advent and Christmas seasons,
with their completion in the feast of the Epiphany. The first weekend
begins at Glenstal Abbey on Friday 24th October 2008 at 4.00 pm,
continuing until midday on Sunday 26th October. Subsequent
weekends are from Friday 28th November to Sunday 30th, 2008(Advent),
Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th January 2009 (Christmas/ Epiphany).
The second
module (which is a follow-on module and requires candidates to have
completed Part I) consists of three further weekends and deals with
Lent and Easter celebrations, with their completion at Pentecost.
The second module takes place on the following weekends; Friday,
20th to Sunday 22nd February 2009
(Lent), Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th April 2009 (Passiontide) and Friday
29th to Sunday 31st May, 2009 (Pentecost).
Participants will join in the liturgical celebrations of
the monastic community in the context of workshops and seminars.
The aim is that of developing a deeper theological understanding
based on liturgical celebration, so as to foster personal spiritual
growth and a sense of the symbolic, in and beyond the liturgy itself.
The
course should be of interest to all who worship in the Christian
community, and especially to those who have active ministries in
the churches.
Cost: €100
per weekend.
Course Requirements: Attendance and participation
at all six weekends; reflection on selected texts; final presentation
on a chosen liturgical topic, monitored by a tutor, to be completed
before the final weekend.
Credits: 12 Credits per Module.

You may use this Module to work towards gaining an Accredited
College Certificate:
This module is recognised and accredited by Mary
Immaculate College as potentially fulfilling a portion of the required
number of credits for the College Certificate in Theology and Religious
Studies. This is a Modular and Credit-based programme. Participants
will be required to gain 60 credits by participating in a selection
of modules from a wide and varied menu.
All participants on the College
Certificate are required to pay an annual registration fee of 150
euro (subject to increase), payable to Mary Immaculate College
which entitles them to library and other College facilities and support
from the co-ordinator etc.
A 12 credit module Foundations of
Christian Theology is
mandatory for all who wish to acquire the College certificate. Of
the total 60 credits 36 must be explicitly in the area of Theology & Religious
Studies.
