Retreat Day – ‘Benedict 101’

Benedict 101

Day Retreat with Fr Simon Sleeman OSB

Saturday 11th February 2017

This retreat day is an introduction to the work of Saint Benedict. We will examine what he was trying to achieve in writing his Rule and see what applications it has for us today.  The Rule was not written by a spiritual taskmaster who bullies or browbeats us but rather deals with the great questions of the human condition: the presence of God, the foundation of human relationships, the nature of self-development.  We will look at the design he came up with to try and ensure that his monks’ hearts were ‘enlarged’ and that they learned ‘to run with the unspeakable joy of love’, something we should all surely aspire to achieving.
