Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

None of us wants to suffer.  When Jesus predicts his own execution Peter protests.  Yet the cross is unavoidable and in the end must be embraced.  Of course we are appalled and protest (and we see an example of this in the outpourings of Jeremiah in today’s first reading), but God can help us to finally accept and to find a life-giving power in union with Christ.

Prayer of the Faithful

Invitation to Prayer

Let us lift up our minds and hearts to the Lord

and pray for those in need.

Intentions

We pray for the Church, that together we may walk the path of humble discipleship, turning aside from illusory promises and living the paschal mystery.  Lord, hear us.

We pray for all those young people who are making important decisions about study and work options, that they may be made new in mind and heart, and joyfully discover God’s will.  Lord, hear us.

We pray for those who are persecuted or ridiculed for speaking the truth, that they may remain steadfast and strong.  Lord, hear us.

We pray for those who have died, that the Son of Man will give them the fullness of life for which they hoped.  Lord, hear us.

Concluding Prayer

O God come to the help of your people,

and listen to our prayer.

May we find joy in your presence

and life in your love.

Through Christ our Lord.
