T4W: Blessed Bees

beeIn medieval times miracle stories were commonly circulated to encourage devotion and belief in the Real Presence.

One story tells of a priest taking communion to a sick man. On the way he encounters a swarm of bees. He captures the swarm and continues on his way but leaves the host behind. When he realizes his mistake he returns but the host has gone.

After spending a year doing penance for his mistake, an angel appears to him and tells him where to find the host. The swarm of bees had returned to where the host lay and brought it to their hive. There they built a chapel, an altar, a chalice and a priest to stand over the host, all out of wax.

The priest finds the hive, shows it off and many of those who saw the miracle were convinced of the truth of the Real Presence.
